About the Foundation

Inspiring a Legacy of Opportunity

The Richard Wayne Pollard Education Foundation (RWPEF) was established in November 2011 by its namesake, Richard Wayne Pollard, during the final month of his courageous battle with cancer. His vision was simple yet profound: to create lasting educational opportunities for future generations of Texas students through meaningful scholarship support. Today, his legacy lives on through the lives of those his foundation continues to empower.

About Richard Wayne Pollard

Born on August 23, 1940, in rural Wood County, Texas, Richard’s early life was shaped by a love for the outdoors, community spirit, and a strong work ethic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, and played both football and basketball in high school. After attending Tyler Junior College, he graduated from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M – Commerce) in 1962 with a degree in Business Administration.

Following college, Richard volunteered for the United States Army and served honorably as an officer until 1965. Upon returning home, he built a family and began his career in the insurance industry. His journey took him to College Station in 1973, where he joined Anco Insurance. In 2000, he founded SIG Insurance Services, LLC, growing it from a local agency into a thriving multi-location firm across Texas.

A Champion for Education and Community

Richard believed deeply in the value of higher education—not just as a means of personal advancement, but as a way to build stronger communities. He understood that success wasn’t limited to perfect grades, but could be earned through hard work, determination, and a desire to leave a positive mark on the world.

The foundation he created reflects those values. It is dedicated to supporting students across Texas, helping them pursue their educational goals and make a difference in the communities they call home.

Richard’s daughter, Melinda Pollard, now serves as Chairwoman of RWPEF, continuing his mission and honoring his legacy by empowering students to achieve their potential.
